A Neighbor’s Independence Depends on You!
What is Care Team Ministry?
Care Team Ministry is made up of congregations, service organizations and small groups in Pierce County who wish to help their neighbors remain independent by providing assistance in a variety of ways; through friendly visits, by providing transportation to necessary appointments and shopping, small home maintenance projects, and meal preparation and delivery. Additional services may be available on request.

All volunteers are trained, and have received a Washington State background check.

Last year, over 300 volunteers helped their neighbors in need, providing over 12,000 hours of volunteer service in Pierce County!

Providing assistance and companionship, volunteers help their neighbors remain independent.

How does it work?

  • Teams are made up of trained adult and youth volunteers
  • Team leaders from each congregation/organization coordinate the program
  • Clergy and/or staff work with Care Teams to meet community needs.
  • Lutheran Community Services staff provides ongoing training and assistance to each team.
  • Each team is part of the larger Care Team network.

This benefits both congregations and the community!

  • Brings friendship and compassionate care through friendly visits.
  • Bring joy and respite to family members caring for their loved one.
  • Church and community involvement ensure that the program meets the needs of the community.
  • Care Teams adapt to the busy schedules of the volunteers.
  • Parents, teens and children can volunteer together.
  • Team members learn new skills.
  • Participants remain independent while benefiting from the Care Team Connection.
  • Community teamwork creates community resources.
Faith in Action Care Team Ministry trained volunteers seek to serve those in need; there are no charges for services. We are happy to serve people of every race, color, lifestyle, and creed. In many cases we provide care to those “in the gap”, unable to afford care, yet not qualified for public assistance.

How to get involved
All volunteers in the program receive 2 hours of training, during which they learn a variety of skills, as well as the use and need for service logs. Volunteers who provide transportation must have a valid drivers license and current auto insurance.

If you, your congregation or organization would like to become a part of Care Team,
