Multnomah County School Impact Project

Lutheran Community Services Northwest, Catholic Charities, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon and Immigrants & Refugee Community Organization provide the following services through the Multnomah County School Impact (MCSI) Project to assist refugee children.

  • Interpreting services by bicultural and bilingual staff at parent-teacher meetings and other (requested) occasions for refugee parents, student and school faculty/staff.
  • Translating school-related information into refugee languages.
  • Assisting with fist day of school orientation.
  • Serving as advocates for students’ school success by acting as cultural brokers between parents and schools.
  • Connecting students with additional homework help, ESL assistance, or Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) programs.
  • Assisting students to participate in school sports or other extra curricular activities.
  • Aiding educators to monitor student progress through follow-ups.
  • Referring students to recreational and educational programs in the summer.
