Marie Corey, a volunteer for more than 20 years in our Tacoma Meals on Wheels Program, passed away earlier this year at the age of 87. During her time with the program Marie volunteered nearly 10,000 hours and coordinated getting 134,000 meals out to local seniors and people with disabilities.
“Marie was an exceptional volunteer who was truly ‘called’ to do this work,” noted South Puget Sound Area Director Trudy Sorensen. “She knew every client and, oftentimes, the family members. She devoted herself to service and did so gracefully.”
In honor of Marie’s dedication and desire to help those in need of a meal, our Tacoma office has established a fund in her honor. “Marie’s Purse” will be used to help provide free or reduced costs meals to clients with limited means. Her legacy of helping others will continue through this fund. |
