Our Kitsap/Olympic Fall Brunch on November 2nd was once again held at scenic Crista Camp – Island Lake, between Silverdale and Poulsbo, Washington. This year’s theme “Woven Together” emphasized the support LCS is blessed to have through its donors, volunteers, staff and community partners. Through the “weaving” of the talents and generosity of many, the event celebrated the accomplishments of LCS’ seven programs serving the local area.
Sparkling cider, light refreshments and engaging conversation greeted our guests during the social hour, which was followed by a generous prime rib buffet with all of the trimmings. An inspirational program was presented by Roberta Nestaas, President/CEO and Trudy Sorensen, South Puget Sound Area Director, who updated the audience on work of the agency and the Bremerton office. The highlight of the afternoon was an overview and personal insights of a new program - “The Memory Connection” - by Program Manager Carol Harcharik and volunteer Ethyl Mae Nelson.
Pastor William Crabtree from Silverdale Lutheran Church was our charming Master of Ceremonies. To the delight of our guests, Anita Proudfoot, the new Church and Community Relations Director for LCS in Western Washington, sang The Lord’s Prayer for the Invocation. Another surprise came when Ken Robinson, longtime volunteer and supporter of LCS, was presented with the 2008 Helen Norris Award. Ken’s many acts of charity have expressed a heart that longs to see the lives of those in need changed through the Church and our agency.
All in all, it was a delightful event, celebrating the agency’s work in the community and the challenges that lie ahead in strengthening services in the Kitsap/Olympic area. Thanks the generosity of our banquet sponsors and donors, $20,000 was raised to help support local LCS programs. Our sincere thanks to all of the tireless volunteers, willing guest speakers, and bighearted sponsors and donors who helped us to reach our fundraising goal! |
