Over 587 riders participated in the 10th annual 8 Lakes Leg Aches Bike Ride on Saturday, August 2nd. Once again, ‘Title’ Sponsor Group Health Cooperative hosted this year’s event with the ride start/finish at their corporate offices on Sunset Highway. At the end of the ride, participants and volunteers enjoyed fresh, hot David’s Pizza and cool Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. This is one of the best cycling events in Eastern Washington, touring scenic landscapes between Spokane, Medical Lake and Cheney. Riders of all abilities chose from a leisurely 30-mile ride or challenging 50-mile or 80-mile trek.
This year’s ride raised over $58,300 to benefit ACT for Kids, a program of Lutheran Community Services' Sexual Assault & Family Trauma (SAFeT) Response Center. The ACT for Kids program and SAFeT Response Center are committed to the prevention and healing of sexual abuse and family trauma through education and treatment. Since the majority of clients seen at the Center have limited resources, proceeds from this event enable us to continue providing the best services to those who desperately need assistance in our community. A total of 109 riders gathered pledges in support of ACT for Kids. Those raising $175 or more in pledges received a limited edition 8 Lakes Leg Aches Voler long-sleeve designer jersey. |
