Boise Banquet - 2009
The Boise banquet was a magnificent evening at Edwards Greenhouse. As always Edwards staff turned the Greenhouse in to a magical place. We were so lucky to have classical pianist Svetlana Maddox, who recently debuted at Carnegie Hall. She truly added to the beautiful setting and set the ambiance for the entire evening. Life’s Kitchen catered the evening with five-star food and service. Life’s Kitchen is a non-profit program created to train young adults (ages16-20) in the culinary arts and life skills to ensure their transition toward independent living. This year we had a large number of first-time banquet guests, helping us raise over $22,000 for the families we serve.
Jennifer Darling and Heather Donahue highlighted our Center for Stress Reduction and the benefits of expressive art therapy, which most of our programs use in some fashion. The master of ceremonies for the evening program was Rev. Christian Marien. LCS President/CEO Roberta Nestaas recognized Vera Fink for her tireless service to the agency as a member of our Area Council as well as on the agency’s Board of Directors, from which she’s retiring. She then introduced Georgia Girvan as the new member of the LCS Board of Directors.
Janet Dunn, the evening’s featured speaker, described how one of our counselors helped her work through her destructive choices and use her art to break the cycle of those types of decisions. Janet said “I’m so blessed to have been referred to LCS. The staff is so great and was there for me when I really needed someone. They truly helped me find value in myself.” Janet knows LCS helped her find the joy in living.
The amazing talents of Svetlana and Andrew Maddox brought the house down with Ava Maria. The entire evening was truly spectacular.
For those who were not able to join us, gifts to support LCS are gratefully accepted year-round. A quick, easy way to give is possible on our Online Donation Page.
