On November 6th, the Bremerton/Kitsap office of Lutheran Community Services celebrated its annual fall fundraising brunch at the beautiful waterfront Kitsap Conference Center.  The sunny afternoon allowed the spectacular view to spill over and become part of the event.  Our theme this year is “Stepping Stones to the Future” and showing how LCS makes a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors.

The beautiful view was the perfect backdrop for the soothing instrumental sounds of Cheryl Thompson and Tim Quigley as they played the cello and guitar during the social hour.   Dave Gitch kept us entertained as the Master of Ceremonies and Pastor Steve Ray from Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard blessed the day for us with an invocation.  Roberta Nestaas, LCSNW President and CEO, spoke of the future and how sometimes the steps we take are firm and solid, while at other times, a bit unsteady and in need of extra support. 

Honored for many years of faithful service to LCS, Marcy Daley was presented with the Helen Norris award.  Marcy was the first area director for LCS and took us down memory lane mentioning many other volunteers over the years. 

Leah Olson presented a heartwarming story from a lifelong RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) volunteer.  Leah also shared how much that program has meant to her and to so many others in the area.  Guests heard how the Home Care Program has allowed Lanse and Rebecca Richardson freedom to go out on occasion, knowing their daughter Annie is well cared for in their absence. 

Roberta Leonardy asked us to “Step Up to the Challenge” while Bing and Bonnie Debar entertained us with a beautiful song.   Reverend Ken Robinson sent us on our way with a blessing. The event was a wonderful testimony of how Lutheran Community Services is making a difference for seniors and families in our neighborhood.  Together, donors, community partners, staff and volunteers all made a commitment to “Step Up to the Challenge”!
