The batterers intervention program uses two curriculums to address intimate partner violence. We use the Emerge and Duluth models, which are the pioneers in the field of domestic violence. The philosophy of the staff is that men and women who use abuse and violence to control the partner and children in their lives do so by choice. We also believe they can choose to not abuse the women and children in their lives. We believe their worldview drives the decision making process to use force or abuse others. We help participants with the process of changing their worldview from a possibly self-centered victim perspective to a more independent and possibly even interdependent view of the world. We also help men discover how they have been socialized by the culture they live in and how that greatly impacts their world view, which impacts how they treat others. The program helps to think critically about their relationships with their wives, children, and all relationships.
