In 1999, we received
a call from the national headquarters of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church
in
America
(ELCA).
We were asked if we would be interested in purchasing (for
the balance of the debt) the church building and four acre site
where
we then
leased administrative office space.
This offer turned out to be a very significant
gift from the church as well as an opportunity to dream. Visions
began emerging about how this land could be used
in future ministry
and service. What evolved were partnerships to create a collaborative,
Intergenerational Campus.
Our vision at Lutheran Community Services
is to construct a new community services building, where under
one roof
people will find health care, child care, refugee services
and community resources.
And next door will be affordable housing for
seniors created by the Lutheran Alliance To Create Housing.
We see a village where seniors and toddlers, and people from
around
the
world, find
mutual
support and community.
A group of community, business and church
leaders has come together to lead this effort. For a list
