Put simply, the Senior Companions Program is senior volunteers helping other seniors and people with disabilities in their community.
“It feels good to be needed again! |
The Senior Companions Program is part of the Corporation for National Service. The goal of the program is to provide valuable volunteer opportunities to seniors while providing companionship and support services to individuals in need, allowing them to live more independently. Specific services may include transportation to medical appointments and essential shopping.
Partnering with organizations in Pierce and Kitsap County, the program matches low-income volunteers with vulnerable seniors and disabled adults in our community. Senior Companions must be 60 or older, and qualify based on their income. Companions go through an application process and special training program before being matched with seniors or individuals with disabilities.
Volunteers receive a tax-free stipend, as well as mileage and meal reimbursement.
